I Built A Vinyl Record Shelf!

My friend and I found some plans online and built a pretty badass vinyl record shelf. Here are some photos of the process, as well as some information on how you can build your own.

Mario Plays Metallica in Melbourne

Mario Plays Metallica in Melbourne

While exploring the streets of Melbourne, I came across a man in a Mario suit playing Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters”. Seeing a full-grown Mario playing Metallica (and playing it quite well, for that matter) was quite a sight.

Sound Tribe Sector 9 “Axe The Cables” at Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA

I’ve been a fan of Sound Tribe Sector 9 for quite a while now, and have seen some pretty awesome shows over the years, but I’ve never had a chance to see one of their acoustic (“Axe the Cables”) performances.

So when I heard that they were doing an Axe the Cables set at a Winery in Saratoga, it was a no brainer for me – I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale.

SLAYER! Sidewalk Chalk & The Worlds Cutest Metalhead?

SLAYER! Sidewalk Chalk & The Worlds Cutest Metalhead?

This past Sunday, my girlfriend, her daughter and I were messing around with some sidewalk chalk.

Ever since high school, I’ve had a tendency to draw the Slayer logo everywhere. It started with notebook sketches, and somehow continued even into my professional life. I’ve definitely come out of client meetings with a big ol’ SLAYER logo along the side of my notes…

My Record Collection Just Got A Lot Bigger

My Record Collection Just Got A Lot Bigger

I recently started collecting vinyl records. I built a pair of Dayton Audio BR-1 speakers (which I plan on posting about in more detail when I have the time) and bought a “beginners” turntable – an Audio-Technica AT-LP60. For a few weeks, I used a Sony receiver that my roommate had sitting around. But I knew I wanted something older. I did a bit of research, and lots of people seemed to think that some of the vintage Marantz receivers had great sound, if you could find one at an affordable price. So I began to scour Craigslist.

Car Camping at Coachella? Here’s What To Expect

Car Camping at Coachella? Here’s What To Expect

Every year there seems to be a lot of confusion over the car camping situation at Coachella. Not everything is explained as clearly as it could be. Your spot will be 10 ft x 30 ft. You can’t occupy a car camping spot without a car parked there. There’s no limit to how many people are allowed in one campsite, but I’d say that 3 tents is the most that you’d be able to fit, and that’s pushing it.

Mandolin Birthday Cake!

Mandolin Birthday Cake!

My girlfriend and I spent a good part of this past Saturday night/Sunday morning making a birthday cake for my roommate, Paul. He seems to be partial to the mandolin, so my girlfriend thought it’d be a good idea to try and make a cake that looked like the instrument. I had never done anything like this before, but I was confident that she knew what she was doing.
